Where our Values Come From
Around 1236, in the West African empire of Mali, leaders gathered and proclaimed the Manden Charter — a set of principles for how people should live together. It's considered one of the oldest declarations of human rights in the world. It was never written as a single document; it was spoken, remembered, and passed down through generations, and in 2009 UNESCO recognized it as part of the cultural heritage of humanity.
What's remarkable is how modern it sounds. The Charter spoke to the dignity of every person, peace among different communities, care for the land and the food it provides, and education as the foundation of a free and thriving society.
Those principles became our values:
Freedom and Sovereignty of Humanity — every person's right to live freely and benefit from their own work.
Environmental Protection and Food Security — clean water, healthy food, and care for the land we all depend on.
Peace and Social Justice — there is no peace without justice, and every community deserves to live free of fear.
Education — the gateway to freedom and security, and the mark of a thriving community.
We carry the name Manden because these aren't slogans to us — they're the standard we hold ourselves to, and the reason we choose the clients and communities we serve.
